V.                 Teaching Procedures:

A.     Setting the Stage:  (If it’s a rainy day):  “This morning when all of you were riding the school bus, what was the weather like?  That’s right, it was rainy.  I know a song that I like to sing when it’s rainy outside.  The song makes me cheerful when I’m feeling a little bit down because of the weather.  We’re all going to learn this song today.”

B.     Developing the Lesson:

1.      Ask Ss to listen:  “After I sing the song, I’m going to ask you to tell me how you think I feel if it’s raining”

2.      T models the song, in correct key, after giving the correct starting pitch.

3.      Follow-up.  T asks, “How do you think I felt on the rainy day?” (Answer:  Happy; Carefree)

4.      2nd Listening:  “This time, I want you to listen for the way that the melody moves.”

5.      Follow-up. “Do the pitches in the melody move by step, or by leap?”

6.      3rd Listening:  Keep a steady beat by tapping on knees.

7.      Follow-up.

8.      Echo sing (by phrase).  “I don’t care if the rain comes down, I’m gonna dance all day,”

9.      Follow-up.  Reteach if needed.

10.  Teach 2nd phrase:  “I don’t care if the rain comes down, I’m gonna dance all day.”

11.  Follow-up.  Reteach if needed.

12.  Teach 3rd phrase:  “Hey, hey, carry me away, I’m gonna dance all day,”

13.  Follow-up.  Reteach if needed.

14.  Teach 4th phrase:  “Hey, hey, carry me away, I’m gonna dance all day.”

15.  Follow-up.  Reteach if needed.

16.  Ss sing the whole song

17.  Addition of motions:  T asks, “What kinds of motions could we do with this song to make it even better?”  T incorporates Ss suggestions. T suggests the use of an umbrella.

18.  Ss sing the song again, adding motions. T allows at least one S the chance to hold / dance with umbrella as reward.

19.  T plays the song at the piano with accompaniment; sing the whole song with students.
